About biwapp.de
BIWAPP (Bürger Info & Warn App) is a smartphone app for iOS and Android that delivers official warnings and local information to the public. Messages are sent by competent authorities such as disaster protection agencies, municipalities and control centres. BIWAPP operates the technical platform and states that it does not influence the content or timing of messages. Users select places and topics, such as fires, road accidents, school closures or flooding, and can enable push notifications; the Wächter function limits alerts to the user's current location.
The customers are German districts and cities whose authorities use the service to send messages, and the residents who receive them. The app is offered free of charge to citizens. Group messages with a feedback function are reserved for municipalities.
The service connects to the NINA app of the Federal Office of Civil Protection (BBK) and to the MoWaS system, and it carries official weather warnings from the German Meteorological Service (DWD). Version 4.0 is a complete redevelopment of the app for Android and iOS.
Product: Free iOS and Android app with location-based emergency warnings, municipal messages, push notifications and a web embed for messages.
