About Avant Wood

Avant Wood develops Thermo-Mechanical Timber Modification (TMTM) technology, which uses compression pressure and controlled treatment conditions to change wood properties such as hardness, dimensional stability, colour and durability. Its offering covers TMTM modification units, process control software and hardware, and CSS, which comprises software updates, service and proactive maintenance.

The customers are companies in solid wood industries. Unit deliveries are carried out as collaboration projects with each customer, and the company supports customers from initial contact through sales, delivery and aftermarket service. The stated aim is to let customers use fast-growing farmed softwood in place of hardwood and endangered species, and to use small-diameter timber in engineered wood products.

Avant Wood was registered in Finland in 2016 and is headquartered in Kuopio. Its TMTM technology was developed from the early 2000s through a pilot plant and R&D with Finnish timber industry companies, universities and research institutes. The website states that seven modification units are already up and running.
