About Arborea

Arborea develops the Biosolar Leaf™ cultivation system, which grows microalgae using CO2 and natural sunlight in a soil-free, closed system. The company extracts proteins, natural colours, bioactive nutrients and other ingredients from the resulting biomass.

Its target customers are companies in food, feed, petcare, cosmetics and agriculture, and it works with industry partners on new products and ingredient supply chains. Collaborations named on its site include a Biosolar Leaf™ pilot with ABInBev in Mexico, focused on capturing CO2 from brewing, and a pilot with Imperial College London in central London, focused on urban air purification.

Arborea was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in London. The system does not require fertile land and can be sited on rooftops, arid land or alongside existing infrastructure. A microscopic plant chandelier developed with the V&A is part of the museum's permanent collection in London.
