About Aegiq
Aegiq builds fault-tolerant photonic quantum computers that combine deterministic photon-source technology with silicon photonics, aiming at compact, rack-based systems that run alongside existing HPC and datacentre infrastructure. Its portfolio includes a first-generation quantum computer, C-band deterministic quantum light sources, the QLAS system for real-time detection of tamper attacks on optical fibre, the LightWorks SDK for building workflows and running jobs on Aegiq systems and emulators, and tensor-network software for simulations on GPU infrastructure.
The company works with semiconductor, photonics, high-performance computing and quantum organisations and uses a fabless model with external foundries. It has announced a collaboration with MBDA and a quantum CFD project using NVIDIA cuQuantum.
Aegiq was founded in Sheffield in 2019 and is based there, building on quantum photonics research at the University of Sheffield. In 2025 it deployed its first photonic quantum computing system at the UK's National Quantum Computing Centre. Its leadership includes co-founders Scott Dufferwiel (CEO) and Maksym Sich (Chief Innovation Officer).
Product: Photonic quantum computers, C-band deterministic quantum light sources, QLAS fibre tamper-detection system, LightWorks SDK and tensor-network software.
