About Aber Instruments

Aber Instruments makes biomass monitoring systems based on dielectric spectroscopy for live cell density readings and OPTURA bio-reflectance instruments for total cell density. Its portfolio also includes BioPAT Viamass single-use biomass sensors for Ambr 250 High Throughput bioreactors, developed with Sartorius Stedim Biotech.

Customers are manufacturers in brewing, biotech, biorenewables and biofuel. The company names GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, AB InBev, Heineken and SAB Miller among its customers. Systems are sold directly and through a global distributor network, and a customer portal gives customers, distributors and partners access to manuals, training videos and demo software.

Aber was formed in 1988 and is based on a campus in Aberystwyth, Wales, where its biomass measurement method was invented by researchers from the University of Aberystwyth and the Centre for Alternative Technology. The company is employee owned and has a US entity, Aber Instruments Inc.
