Xero provides cloud accounting software covering online invoicing, bank reconciliation, bills, payroll, expense claims, inventory, project tracking, reporting and cash flow forecasting. Bank data is drawn from 21,000+ institutions, and the platform offers 1,000+ app integrations through its app store. The company is developing JAX, an AI assistant that the features page describes as in beta.

Customers are small businesses, sole traders and the self-employed, along with accountants and bookkeepers who manage client books; the website cites over 250,000 accountants and bookkeepers as users. Revenue comes from tiered monthly subscription plans (Starter, Standard, Premium), with a 30-day free trial offered.

Xero states it has operated since 2006 and serves 5 million customers in 180+ countries. Its careers page names Wellington, New Zealand as headquarters (Xero One), and lists offices in Auckland, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, as well as locations in the UK, US, South Africa and Asia. Its open roles, about 40 at the time of capture, are concentrated in engineering, revenue and marketing.
