About Solar Materials

Solar Materials recovers silver, silicon, glass, aluminium and copper from end-of-life solar modules using a patented thermomechanical process without chemicals. It states that it processes modules at an industrial plant in Magdeburg, with an annual capacity of 14,000 tonnes.

Customers are solar park operators, EPCs and project developers, and module manufacturers with take-back obligations. The company says recycling for crystalline modules is free of charge for customers and that it does not charge a recycling fee; its material recoveries are described as financing the process. It is WEEE-compliant and was certified as a first-treatment facility and waste management company under ElektroG from October 2023.

The company states it was founded in Magdeburg in 2021 and lists Dr. Jan-Philipp Mai (Co-Founder & CEO), David Stuck (CFO) and Jan Bargel (Co-Founder & CTO) as its management team. The website says the company is supported by the European Union and the State of Saxony-Anhalt, and that it is hiring for recycling, process engineering, logistics, production, software, sales and administration roles, with four open positions listed, including Project Manager Site Development and Business Development Manager Italy.

Product: Industrial recycling service for end-of-life solar modules, with module collection, processing and WEEE-compliant disposal documentation
