Fermeria operates an online platform where people seeking care or household help find caregivers, and where caregivers and service providers publish profiles and job ads. Categories include senior and disabled care, childcare, pet sitting, household help, tutoring and specialised professions. Users can register for free and use a mobile app.

Customers are families and individuals looking for help, and caregivers and service providers offering it; companies can also advertise jobs. Basic access is free. Revenue comes from a paid Premium membership priced at 3.99 € per 30 days for individuals and from company packages (Business Start, Business 6, Business 12) with listed prices of 199.99 €, 299.99 € and 499.99 € net for 3, 6 and 12 months.

The project started as a general job portal idea in 2009, was publicly launched as Freecare in summer 2012, and was rebranded Fermeria with a new platform in 2015. Portals were launched in Slovakia and the Czech Republic in 2016, followed by Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary and Romania. The website states more than 40,000 users across 8 European countries; the registry lists the operating company as AT personalistika s.r.o., based in Vranov nad Topľou, Slovakia.
