EPI (European Payments Initiative) is building Wero, a digital wallet for instant account-to-account payments between bank accounts. The service begins with person-to-person and person-to-professional payments, with online, mobile and point-of-sale shopping planned later.

EPI is backed by 18 European banks and financial services companies, including pan-European acquirers. Its customers are consumers and merchants, who can use Wero through member banks' apps and through a standalone mobile app on Android and iOS. The input does not describe EPI's revenue model.

According to the website, Wero launched in Belgium, France and Germany in 2024, with work under way toward the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The company describes its team as fully remote; its open roles are listed as remote-first across several countries, with one hybrid internship in Paris.
